The Secret to healthy, smooth radiant skin is not always in the best Spa treatment you find or the most expensive products you can buy. I get compliments on my skin from time to time although I’ve come to notice this, I barely took any credit for it. This is because I didn’t think I did anything particularly special to have compliment-worthy skin. I’ve come to realize this thought is wrong. The reason I have compliment-worthy skin is over the years I created rules for taking care of my skin that I live by and now I have smooth, soft, healthy looking skin.
Here are the natural and simple things I do and you can do as well to have smooth, healthy, radiant skin.
1. Wash Your Face
This is very important especially at the end of your day. You need to wash off the oils and dirt on your face. If you are a lady, be sure to take your make up off with light, non-alcohol cleansers or wipes before you wash your face. And FYI! If your face feels tight and/or dry after washing, chances are the products you use are quite harsh for your skin and your skincare routine needs a change.
2. Don’t Rub
Rubbing is a big no-no when it comes to the face whether it’s rubbing your face with a towel after washing, cleaning your face with a handkerchief on a sweaty day or using your fingers to scratch your face. This is because friction on your skin could lead to acne and uneven skin tone.
You should gently pat your face dry after washing with a clean, dry towel. If you must touch your face with your fingers, make sure your hands are clean first.
I love exfoliating, I feel the benefits almost immediately. I typically use the physical method to exfoliate using a fine grain natural scrub but you could choose to use the chemical method just be sure to pick a method that works for your skin. You want to avoid over exfoliating to avoid micro-tears of your skin, uneven skin tone or any other sort of irritation. Once again, you are still not allowed to rub your face – use light pressure in a gentle circular motion.
4. Drink Water
We all know water is good for us and we need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It has many benefits from weight loss to maintaining blood pressure. Another reason to start drinking up right now is Radiant Skin. If you constantly feel dehydrated chances are you have dry-looking skin. Creating the Habit of Drinking Water throughout the Day and constantly staying hydrated will lead to better looking, healthy skin.
5. Natural Oils are Your Bestfriend
I started using Coconut Oil about 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. Natural nourishing oils are great for your skin and there are a few you can choose from including coconut oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, and jojoba oil to name a few. Apply a thin layer of oil to your skin at night and allow your skin to soak in all the goodness, you will wake up with supple skin in the morning.
6. Protect your Skin
It is very important we protect our skin from the Sun especially in a Tropical area like Nigeria. We tend to think Black skin doesn’t burn but this is not true, if your skin begins to darken its sun damage in the making. You need to use creams and products with SPF 30 (Sun Protection Factor) to provide that protective layer over your skin to shield it from Ultraviolet rays from the sun.
7. Eat Healthily
You might be asking, “What does eating Healthy have to do with my skin?” the answer to that is “A lot”. Creams, oils, cleansers and so on only provide surface level (or topical) solutions but really supple, hydrated, glowy, healthy skin starts from within and Diet plays a huge role in this. A low-sugar, antioxidant-rich diet consisting of green tea, colorful fruits, and vegetables (especially leafy vegetables), legumes and lean protein will lead to healthy, radiant skin.
8. Work it Out
Similar to a healthy diet and drinking water, the benefits of Exercise cannot be bought. Exercising and breaking a sweat at least 30 minutes a day gets your heart pumping which increases the circulation of oxygen in your bloodstream, this is the best way to achieve a youthful skin glow.
After reading this, I hope you will apply the information I suggested to your own skincare routine.
I wish you nothing but Happy, Healthy, Radiant, Glowy Skin!!
